Learn to See Color Differently

Train your eye, explore color through hands-on exercises, and gain confidence in choosing color

If you’ve ever looked at your fabric and thought, “I don’t know if this works,” this is for you.

Color Camp is about building your color intuition. You’ll work through hands-on exercises and guided prompts that help you see how color behaves, not just what looks good on paper.

We’ll focus on value, contrast, and color interaction, and how to respond to what you’re seeing in real time so you can make decisions that feel right to you.

This isn’t about getting it perfect. It’s about learning how to work with color and trust your eye.

Course runs June 1st to June 29th with videos available on demand through August 2026.

Does Working With Color Ever Feel Mysterious?

You love working with color… but sometimes you find yourself:

• second-guessing your palette choices
• wondering why does this quilt feel flat?
• unsure if your colors really work together
• wondering when a palette is “finished”
• struggling to balance lights, mediums, and darks
• wanting to use bold color but not knowing how to make it work

You're not alone.

Many quilters love color, but haven’t learned how to see it clearly. That’s exactly what Color Camp is designed to teach.

Color can sometimes feel unpredictable or difficult to control. But once you begin to see how colors interact, working with color becomes much more intuitive!

A Different Way to Learn Color

Most color classes focus on rules or formulas.

Color Camp takes a different approach, because I don't use rules myself!

Instead of memorizing color theory, you’ll explore color through a series of hands-on exercises and small studies that help you observe how color actually behaves.

As you experiment and reflect on what you see, patterns begin to emerge. Over time, your eye becomes more sensitive to the relationships between colors & values, and you begin to understand how small changes can take a color combination form blah to yes!! .

What You’ll Do in Color Camp

Throughout the four weeks of Color Camp, you’ll explore color through a series of hands-on exercises and small studio studies. Rather than focusing on a single finished project, this course is designed to help you experiment, observe, and develop a deeper understanding of how color works.

  • Create small color exercises to explore how different fabrics interact with one another

  • Sew small stitched studies that translate those color ideas into quilted form

  • Experiment with value relationships to see how light and dark shapes structure a design

  • Observe how color combinations change when fabrics are swapped or adjusted

  • Practice building and refining palettes using fabrics from your own stash

  • Develop confidence making color decisions through repeated experimentation

In Color Camp, you'll learn to trust your color choices.

By the end of Color Camp, you’ll have a deeper understanding of how color works in quilts and greater confidence making your own color decisions. Through repeated experimentation and observation, you’ll begin to see patterns in how colors interact and how value shapes a design. Students who take this class often find that the way they see color changes in lasting ways.

Through a series of hands-on studies and guided exercises, you’ll start to see color relationships in an entirely new way.

  • See color relationships more clearly and understand why some combinations work better than others

  • Understand how value shapes the structure of a quilt design and influences where the eye travels

  • Feel more confident choosing fabrics without relying on strict color rules

  • Develop palettes with greater intention, using colors that work together in dynamic ways

  • Recognize patterns in your own color preferences and begin developing your personal color voice

  • Approach new quilt projects with more confidence and curiosity

How Color Camp Works

Color Camp runs for four weeks and is designed as a guided studio experience.

Each week includes:

  • SHORT VIDEO LESSONS

Focused lessons introduce the key ideas for the week and help you understand what to look for as you begin working with color.

  • DEMONSTRATIONS

You’ll watch me create color exercises and studies so you can see how the ideas translate into practice.

  • STUDIO EXERCISES

You’ll explore color through a series of quick exercises and small stitched studies designed to help you observe how colors interact.

  • OPTIONAL STRETCH PROMPTS

Additional prompts encourage you to push your experiments a little further if you’d like to keep exploring during the week.

  • 3 LIVE ZOOM SESSIONS

We’ll meet live twice during the course — once at the beginning to kick off the class and once at the end to reflect on what you’ve discovered and answer questions.

  • Plan for about 2–3 hours of studio time each week to watch the lessons and work through the exercises. You’re welcome to spend more time experimenting if you’d like to continue developing your studies and palettes.

No. As long as you are comfortable with basic sewing and quilting tools, you’ll be able to participate in the exercises and studies.

  • How much time should I plan for each week?

Most students spend about 2–3 hours per week working through the lessons and exercises. You are welcome to spend more time experimenting if you’d like.

You will have access to the course all summer! Come back repeatedly when you need color inspiration.

  • Will the Zoom sessions be recorded?

Yes! It will take about 24 hours to make the recordings available after each meet up

  • Still have a question?

    Email me at [email protected]

  • Will we make a finished quilt?

This class focuses on color exploration rather than a single finished project. The exercises and studies are designed to help you understand how color works so that you can apply what you learn to future quilts.
