Welcome!

The Mod Log Cabin quilt teaches you how to take one of Tara's favorite traditional quilt blocks, the Log Cabin, and play with strip width variation and color to achieve endless combinations. In this course, Tara explores color interaction, how to manage seam allowance and control block wonkiness, and how to trim finished blocks to achieve an easy to assemble final layout. The course includes the full PDF pattern and directions for both 12" and 20" blocks.

This prerecorded content is yours to watch and re-watch as many times as you like. If you have questions or run into trouble, leave comments in the platform to get assistance from Tara and her team.

I really like that colors Tara chose to make this quilt. Some of the blocks had colors that I had never thought to use together. Of course I didn't have the same solid colors however I started curating each block with the fabrics I had on hand. I allowed myself to use brown fabric (that I always ignored in my past quilting exercises). I am enjoying using color combinations along with value adjustments. I use some peppered and shot cottons along the way and seam folds are different than using other solids. I had more fabric to trim. I love the larger block. I don't remember the last time I made a block this large. My blocs are a little bit larger and I am happy with them. Thank you for the inspiration to use colors I have ignored, and I am really glad that I am pairing these up with fabrics I love to use. I love the various combinations. Unlike other times, I didn't measure in advance how much fabric I would need for each block based on the design. I ran out of the fabric colors I had planned to use. This has allowed me to make new choices. I love the process.
